A fun bus with a smoothie ride

A BRIGHT, big, red, double-decker bus, adorned with huge, hip, bold slogans, pulls up. It’s got game consoles and DJs spinning tunes and it’s serving milkshakes and smoothies of every flavour imaginable.
Parked in Mutton Lane, in Potters Bar, dispensing liquid treats, the ShakeTastic bus is a mobile version of the popular milkshake and juice bars that are springing up.

The bus is the brainchild of ShakeTastic director Josh Kettle. He said: “Originally we were going to use a VW campervan, but it just wasn’t big enough.”

The ShakeTastic bus has been up and running for four months and has been seen at a host of festivals, stag dos, parties and even staff training days, as well as, most weekends, in Mutton Lane.

“We’re thinking of opening on Thursday evenings too – the demand is certainly there,” added Josh.

Since opening his first juice and shake bar in Mill Hill just a few years ago, ShakeTastic now has six shops in the UK, with more in the pipeline. It also sells its own brand of water, giving a percentage of sales to clean water charities, has launched a ShakeTastic merchandise line and been named British Smoothie Champion for two years running.

“I never thought for a moment that it wouldn’t take off,” said Josh. And it’s all thanks to British weather…

“Our first day saw heavy snow, so all the kids were off school – and queueing to get in. The next day there were more queues because of the day before!”

The ShakeTastic menu is a contrasting mix of extremely healthy juices and smoothies, such as Eastern Envy – a blend of lychee, melon and lemon grass (£4.65 large), and super indulgent milkshakes, such as the Chocoholic – a fudge brownie and a chocolate bar of your choice (£4.10 large).
